SYDNEY RUSHING

Designer

Sydney is motivated by the potential effects landscape architects can have on urban design and surrounding ecologies, particularly considering the pressing need to advance urban climate adaption. She believes in using a blend of quantitative and qualitative research to support design and deliver locally grounded concepts. Ecological restoration, climate resiliency, environmental justice, and sustainability are all areas of interest she continues to explore and implement into her work.  She has experience in a variety of fields, including public landscape design, architecture, writing, and master planning. She draws design inspiration from her love of travel and learning about and appreciating local cultures.

Sydney holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and a minor in Urban and Regional Analysis from Miami University in Ohio. While in school, she gained experience as an undergraduate assistant, research apprentice, and staff writer for an environmental publication. After graduating Sydney worked for the Wisconsin Conservation Corps as a naturalist at the Ridges Sanctuary in Bailey’s Harbor, Wisconsin and helped guide their 15-year visioning process. Later, Sydney worked as a team member for Hitchcock Design Group in Chicago where she contributed to public and private park projects at various scales.

A Midwesterner at heart and avid enthusiast of the outdoors, Sydney challenges herself to find new ways to stay active in all four seasons. She values being an involved member in her community and enjoys practicing yoga, drawing, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
